On July 10, 48 BC- The legions of Julius Caesar and Gnaeus Pompey Magnus clash at the Battle of Dyrrhachium in Greece during the Roman Civil War. Pompey outnumbered Caesar and his ally Marc Antony and in a see-saw battle, Pompey’s forces routed Caesar’s. Pompey did not follow aggressively allowing Caesar to escape. Caesar summed the situation up saying: "Today the victory had been the enemy's, had there been any one among them to gain it." Allowing Caesar to escape proved fatal for Pompey. He lost the next engagement at Pharsalus which destroyed his army.
